This weekend will be an epic one for Atlanta foodies, with three major events taking place.
Taste of Atlanta
First off, there’s the annual Taste of Atlanta where attendees can taste dishes from dozens of area restaurants, and also learn cooking tips and tricks from some of our city’s best chefs and restaurateurs. For only $25 (for advanced tickets), or $35 at the gate, it’s well worth it. Highlights this year (in my opinion) include the chance to hear from Rusty Hamlin, the executive chef for the Zac Brown Band, at The Chef’s Table stage, as well as learn how to make authentic ramen in The Kitchen Workshop. Atlanta Greek Festival
Next, there’s the long-running Atlanta Greek Festival. The annual event features a wide selection of Greek-inspired jewelry, clothing and other items for sale, as well as traditional dance performances throughout the day. But I bet you can’t guess why I go there? Yes, duh, the food is killer. Head straight for the gyros and Greek potatoes! If you have room, make your way over to the Greek iced coffee and Loukoumades for dessert. The festival even has a drive thru if you just want the food! Here is my initial impression of the festival after attending it for the first time in 2007 – http://freshatl.com/atlanta-greek-festival-its-no-longer-greek-to-me/. (Despite my threat in that post, I have returned to the festival many times and have found the shuttle/line system to become more streamlined and less of a hassle over the years.)
Atlanta Underground Market
And lastly, an event I have not yet attended but have been dying to, the monthly Atlanta Underground Market (AUM) is taking place on Saturday evening. AUM brings together creative home cooks with adventurous eaters who wish to taste their dishes, centered on a different theme and held at a new location each month.
